Leave the Boat

There comes a time in every life,

When what once served now fosters strife.

The traits and tools that pulled us through

Become dead weight we must undo.

They are our boats, that bore us cross—

But now, we must consider the cost.

When intellect once crowned with praise,

Now puzzles thought in endless maze—

Leave the boat behind.

When pride that propped you to stand tall,

Forms shaky walls from which you fall,

Leave the boat behind.

When substances that lifted you high

Now steal your ground and stain the sky—

Leave the boat behind.

When charm that melted every face

Now veils your heart and stifles grace—

Leave the boat behind.

When bricks you stacked to build defense

Now choke your joy and block all sense—

Leave the boat behind.

When anger that sparked your will to survive

Now poisons the flame meant to keep you alive—

Leave the boat behind.

When angels who once lit your path

Now broadcast fear and feed your wrath—

Leave the boat behind.

When all that worked no longer flows,

Old habits cling and chaos grows—

Leave the boat behind.

So cast them off—each tethered weight,

Each mask you wore to conquer fate.

For once the boat has served its role,

Step out, step light, and meet your soul.
