Fear

When I think about my life,
the rights and wrongs that I’ve done,
I realize that all the terror and strife
Arose not from many misperceptions, but one.
This single error in perspective did call,
Upon its thorny, ill-begotten head,
A mountain of misery, where fantasy did fall
From the realm of rocket ships to horrors and dread.
It runs the lives of most everyone I know,
A crooked hand behind shadows, large and small.
We nary admit that it’s in charge of the show,
Our nemesis, fear, the destroyer of all.
Fear is man’s most malicious miscreation,
Stemming from misallocated thoughts.
It builds missiles with worrisome imagination,
That ground the ambition of aspiring astronauts.
If left unaddressed, fear will shatter your dreams,
Suck up all your joy and poison your streams,
All the while asserting it’s for your protection,
Which many believe without pause or objection.
Fear is the reason most relationships fail,
For love can’t be built on promises so frail.
If we wish to know about love everlasting,
there’s a secret of which fear would not like us asking.
Fear thrives on demise, anger, and distrust,
But fear’s not our enemy if our eyes would adjust.
Fear’s more like an animal, wounded and scared,
It attacks when it thinks its freedom’s ensared.
If we learn to not fight fear, but embrace it instead,
Our fear would release and end its bloodshed.
All teachings point to this grace from above,
Fear is but a misguided attempt at love.
