Metamorphosis

The greedy caterpillar, selfish and hungry,
Is a blight on all he passes.
He takes and takes and takes,
And takes,
Giving no thought to the pain
his greediness amasses.
Any plant less fortunate
To withstand his deadly wrath,
Will be forever scarred and bruised
For simply being in his path.
Yet the caterpillar has a destiny,
From which he can’t escape.
There’s a change awaiting
Not a step, but a great ascent
To a higher plane, a leap of faith.
Though if he is to take this ship,
This rocket into space,
He must retreat, must hide and steal
Himself to a place where he can heal.
In his shelter, his cocoon of solace,
He’s vulnerable and exposed.
However, if he can make it through,
What awaits him is a world transposed.
For the caterpillar isn’t interested
In self development or improvement.
He prefers a total overhaul,
A new life and way of movement.
If we could only take a hint,
A lesson from our greedy friend:
If we improve upon wrong perception,
Progress is but a house built upon the sand.
The butterfly didn’t emerge
And give its blessings of beauty upon this earth,
By enhancing its ability to crawl;
It opted for total overhaul,
Renewal and rebirth.
