Repentance

I’m sorry, God, for I have failed
to see your gift within my grasp.
You have given me everything,
but I choose to look away—
greedy hands clutching for more,
a heart too spoiled to rest.
I am not worthy,
yet still, I bow.
I’m sorry
for the times you did the work
and I claimed the glory.
I’m sorry
for the paths you lit
while I wandered into shadow.
I’m sorry
for when you showed me what’s right,
and I went left.
I’m sorry
for putting the weight of the world on my shoulders,
forgetting that I was on Yours.
I have mistaken your patience
for absence,
your silence for neglect.
I have come to you
only with empty hands,
begging.
And though I see you now,
I know I will be blind again.
I’d ask for forgiveness,
But why ask for something
Which you have already given?
Please grant me
humility to bow down,
resilience to rise up,
and wisdom to remember
my way home.
