Superman

Why do superheroes amaze us,
Because they do what we can’t?
Save the world when all’s hopeless,
While the crowds stand and chant.
They shoot lasers through walls
And webs from their wrists,
While I sit here eating cheese balls
Scrolling through my friends list.
If our leaders’ morals are twisted,
Is it even worth trying?
When the news can’t be trusted
and politicians are lying.
Since I don’t have superpowers
What’s there to do?
The mighty stay in their towers
As the world becomes a zoo.
Society needs some tape,
The whistle’s been blown,
So pick up your cape
And put down your phone.
Perhaps Superman isn’t needed,
nor any of his powers.
Reclaim our souls that we traded,
Turn our guns in for flowers.
Why do superheroes amaze us?
It’s not their power or speed,
But their willingness to sacrifice
For all those in need.
It’s not the costumes or capes that set them apart–
Superheroes have a supersized heart.
